Mobile home insurance is not the same as ordinary home insurance. A holiday park, lender or other agreement may require particular cover, and insurance can protect against major financial loss. Check the requirements that apply to your mobile home and compare specialist policies.
Depending on the policy, cover may apply to loss or damage caused by specified events such as fire, theft, storm or vandalism. The insured events, limits and exclusions differ between providers, so never assume that every type of weather or accidental damage is included.
Contents cover may protect belongings kept inside the mobile home, subject to limits and exclusions. Check single-item limits, security requirements and whether valuables, outdoor furniture, sheds or equipment kept elsewhere on the pitch need separate cover.
Public or occupiers’ liability cover may respond if someone is injured or their property is damaged and you are legally liable. Check who is covered, the policy limit and whether activities such as letting, subletting or paid accommodation are excluded.
Policies may settle a total loss using market value, an agreed value or a replacement basis. These can produce very different outcomes. Confirm how the mobile home, delivery, siting, debris removal and associated structures would be valued before choosing the sum insured.
The excess is the portion of a valid claim that you pay yourself. Different excesses may apply to storm, escape of water, theft or other claims. Compare both the premium and the excesses rather than choosing on price alone.
Read the policy wording for age limits, maintenance requirements, frost precautions, security conditions, unoccupied periods, flood or coastal exposure, wear and tear, vermin, gradual damage and undeclared commercial use. Tell the insurer accurately how and where the mobile home will be used.
Have the make, model, year, dimensions, purchase value, location, park details, intended use, occupancy dates, security features and claims history ready. Ask whether decking, steps, skirting, sheds and contents need to be listed separately.
Compare the schedule and full wording, not only the summary. Check the sums insured, insured events, exclusions, excesses, claim contact details and any actions required when the mobile home is unoccupied. Keep photographs, receipts and the identification details in a safe place.
This is general information and not insurance advice. Cover varies by policy and provider. Speak directly with an authorised insurer or broker and confirm the policy terms that apply to your circumstances.
