Rush Golf Club

Rush Golf Club, founded in 1943 is a links course with panoramic views of Lambay Island and Dublin Bay. The links of Rush Golf Course is located in the middle of some of the most famous and best links territory in the entire golfing world, let alone Ireland. Ivan Morris, in his book 'Ireland's Best 9-Hole Golf Courses' described Rush Golf Club as the one of the Top Three 9-Hole Links in Ireland. He also rated the 5th hole as 'well worth the time and effort of criss-crossing the Country to play, describing it as having a feel of Royal Lytham & St.Anne's about it'.

With a new Clubhouse built in 2002 complimenting the natural contours of the course, the bar and restaurant offer a friendly and comfortable setting with views of the 1st and 9th holes. Rush is one of the few clubs that has been fortunate enough to keep its old world charm and as a links, it is playable all year round.

Newgrange

Newgrange

Newgrange is the best known Irish passage tomb and dates to c.3,200BC. The large mound is approximately 80m in diameter and is surrounded at its base by a kerb of 97 stones. The most impressive of these stones is the highly decorated Entrance Stone.

The mound covers a single tomb, which consists of a long passage and a cross-shaped chamber. The passage points to the southeast and is just less than 19 m long. It leads in to a chamber with three recesses. A corbelled roof covers the chamber. To construct the roof, the builders overlapped layers of large rocks until the roof could be sealed with a capstone, 6 metres above the floor. After 5000 years, the roof at Newgrange is still water proof.

A circle of standing stones also surrounds Newgrange. Its purpose is unclear, although recent research indicates that it could have had an astronomical function. The Stone Circle was erected sometime after 2000BC since excavation have shown that one of the stones of the circle lies directly on top of the Early Bronze Age Pit Circle. Originally there may have been more stones in the circle. Possibly some were broken up over the years. This was the final phase of building at Newgrange. Full moon over the great circle at Newgrange
